An ode to my trekking shoes

You, a size ten craft of beautiful bark brown suede
Cocoa colored laces, only a few inches shorter than the silent pine trees
You bit my feet throughout our first Himalayan trek
Almost got me frostbite, though it was mostly my mistake
You were a pair of waterproof shoes at best
We walked across the splashing brooks
Though when we saw our first snowfall, I fell in love with the mountains nonetheless

That last time I noticed you were weary
after your countless climbs and peaks
I could see your black sole tearing up a bit from your suede body
Yet, I was a bit selfish and thought one easy trek
to the valley of flowers would be the perfect farewell
But you gave up halfway through
and then it was the rocks and branches this time who bit my foot
Now your cocoa-colored laces adorn my rucksack
Here’s to our many more beautiful mishaps
